Andy’s Place

Andy’s Place in Jackson, MI is the first of several permanent supportive recovery housing projects planned in Michigan to address recovery holistically. Andy’s Place will offer 39 one-bedroom apartments for individuals referred by the courts along with a separate building with 11 two-bedroom apartments to house families. Research has shown that a key component to successful recovery is the restoring of families and the program provides the opportunity to keep families together in a safe environment. Rent will be based on income. Individuals without an income don’t have to pay. (Individuals must be part of the Michigan Drug Court System to apply for residency at Andy’s Place)

Andy’s Place will also offer onsite supportive services including case management and recovery program funded and managed by the Drug Court and recreational and life skills programs, including financial health and employment classes, sober and wellness activities, a greenhouse, and an area to create music. The Community Action Agency of Jackson, the development partner, will provide job training and employment services through collaboration with local business owners and manufacturers.

Becoming a Resident/Volunteering

Currently Andy’s Place is at full capacity. Applicants should contact their parole/probation officer and request a recommendation for a room at Andy’s Place.  Once that is done it all goes through the legal system from there and if accepted, the individual will be put on a waiting list.

If you are not part of the Recovery Court Program, you can reach out to the Engagement Center in Jackson.  They offer a bed and safe place to stay for 48 hours.  It is part of Home of New Vision which is an excellent resource for helping find treatment. https://homeofnewvision.org/engagement-center/

During phase 1 of Andy’s Place all individuals looking to apply as residents must be a part of the Michigan Drug Court System and will gain placement based on their decision. We are working towards phase 2 of our project where individuals won’t have to be part of the court system to enter the program. Currently, anyone looking to be a resident or volunteer can make their requests to the Community Action Agency of Jackson by calling (800) 491-0004 or contacting them through their website.

MSP Angel Program

The MSP was the first state law enforcement agency in the nation to implement an Angel Program statewide.

The program allows any person who enters a MSP post and requests help with his or her addiction to be screened for potential participation without fear of being arrested for their drug/alcohol use or current possession.

Working with our partners including PAARI, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans, the Northern Michigan Opioid Response Consortium (NMORC), local law enforcement agencies, and treatment centers, the MSP now supports a three prong approach to combatting illegal drugs and substance use disorder:

  1. Prevention/Education
  2. Treatment (Angel Program)
  3. Enforcement
